Want to apply for Bursaries in South Africa 2021? The Electrum invites an application from suitably and qualifies students for their bursary program.
A bursary is a monetary award made by any educational institution or funding authority to individuals or groups.
It is usually awarded to enable a student to attend school, university, or college when they might not be able to, otherwise. Some awards are aimed at encouraging specific groups or individuals into the study.
ABOUT THE COMPANY – ELECTRUM
Electrum, a Cape Town-based tech company, provide enterprise payments technology to retailers, mobile network operators and financial institutions. One of the most successful FinTech companies in South Africa, Electrum process over a billion transactions each year, with big name customers like Shoprite; Pick n Pay; Clicks; Capitec and Massmart
The company pride themselves on solving transaction pain points – with their cloud-based payment platform, they can process and switch a variety of financial transactions such as money transfers; gift cards;
pre-paid products and bill payments, as well as digital wallets; cryptocurrencies and QR codes.
ABOUT THE BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED & COVERAGE VALUE
Electrum have 3 different bursary programmes:
1) AAA Electrum Academic Bursary: for Computer Science/ Computer Engineering/ related field
Provides cover for: tuition fees (for final year), textbooks, new laptop and accommodation. The bursary also provides the bursary recipient with an internship position and mentorship.
Students are required to work for the company for 1 year after completing their studies.
2) All About Awesome Women in Tech Bursary: for female students in Computer Science/ Computer Engineering/ related field
Provides cover for: tuition fees (for final year), textbooks, new laptop and accommodation. The bursary also provides the bursary recipient with assistance with CV building, coaching on interview techniques and career guidance from mentors.
3) Electrum Foundation Bursary: for Computer Science/ Computer Engineering/ related field, who are in financial need.
Provides cover for: tuition fees and textbooks.
Shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited to a 2 hour technical interview – if you have not received any feedback, please regard your application as unsuccessful.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):
1) AAA Electrum Academic Bursary
- Studying Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related field of study
- Currently in your 2nd or final year of undergraduate studies or honours year
- Studying at Stellenbosch University or the University of Cape Town
- Achieved a minimum of 65% for all Computer Science modules
- Maintain a minimum 65% average
- Have NOT failed any subjects
- Good communication skills
2) All About Awesome Women in Tech Bursary
- Female
- Studying Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related field of study
- Currently in your 2nd or final year of undergraduate studies or honours year
- Studying at Stellenbosch University or the University of Cape Town
- Achieved a minimum of 65% for all Computer Science modules
- Female students from previously disadvantaged backgrounds are encouraged to apply
- Good communication skills
3) Electrum Foundation Bursary
- Studying Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related field of study
- Currently in your 2nd or 3rd year of undergraduate studies or honours year
- Studying at Stellenbosch University/ University of Cape Town/ University of Western Cape/ Cape Peninsula University of Technology/ UNISA
- Do not have financial means to fund your studies
- Good communication skills
