University of Manitoba Assistant Professor Vacancy Job Details: Position Description, Qualification, Responsibilities, and How to Apply.

Position Description

The Department of Biochemistry and Medical Genetics, in the Max Rady College of Medicine, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Manitoba (UM), is seeking an outstanding individual to fill a full-time, probationary (tenure-track) or tenured faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor.

The rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, as determined by the University of Manitoba Faculty Association collective agreement. Preference will be given to individuals working in any field related to cancer biology.

The successful candidate will develop a nationally-funded research program in cancer biology that complements the Department of Biochemistry and Medical Genetics’ research strengths in stem cells, genomics, cancer biology, and bioinformatics and will teach in the area of genetics and/or biochemistry.

The position could begin as early as September 1, 2024, or as negotiated. The salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain an externally funded research program

The candidate will also be expected to teach within the Department of Biochemistry & Medical Genetics and the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences at the undergraduate and graduate student levels and contribute to service activities within the department, the university, and the wider scholarly community.

Qualifications:

Applicants with expertise in cancer biology and a basic knowledge of genetics and/or biochemistry are encouraged to apply.

Preference will be given to applicants with a research program suitable for both health and fundamental science grant funding. Candidates should hold a PhD with at least 3 years of relevant postgraduate experience.

Candidates must have an excellent research record, as evidenced by impactful publications; the potential to secure competitive extramural peer-reviewed grants; a history of mentoring; and a history of effective and productive collaboration.

The potential for a strong linkage between the candidate’s research program and the activities of one or more faculty members in the Department of Biochemistry and Medical Genetics and the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences is desired.
