About Africa Reformation Theological Seminary -ARTS
The history of Africa Reformation Theological Seminary began in 2007 in Kampala. The predecessor institution to ARTS, Westminster Theological Seminary Uganda, was started as a project of the Presbyterian Church in Uganda and in partnership with Birmingham Theological Seminary, Birmingham Alabama, USA. ARTS is indebted to and grateful to the PCU and to BTS for their partnership and encouragement over many years.
WTSU offered graduate level theological training from January 2007 to January 2016, with courses and programs that were not accredited by the National Council For Higher Education of Uganda (NCHE). NCHE is the tertiary educational regulatory agency of the Ugandan government. In February 2016, WTSU decided to seek accreditation from the National Council and to change its name to Africa Reformation Theological Seminary (ARTS).
In April ARTS was enabled by God’s provision through generous partners to purchase a 3.5 acre campus located about 12 kilometers from downtown Kampala, near Kajjansi in Mutungo. In June 2016, ARTS began the application process to register with NCHE. On December 19, 2016, ARTS was granted a provisional license by NCHE. ARTS began offering NCHE-accredited courses in January 2017.
