Central Applications Clearing House -CACH Portal, Check Application Status, Apply.
The CACH service provides an opportunity to learners who have not yet received a place to study at a post-school higher education institution.
Central Applications Clearing House (CACH) service
The CACH service is FREE and aims to match applicants’ National Senior Certificate exam results (which is received directly from the Department of Basic Education) and study preferences with places that need to be filled. This service guarantees that applicant data will be made available to all possible institutions in the PSET system.
However, we cannot guarantee that you will be offered a place.
The Central Application Clearing House (CACH) assists students who have not been offered a place at the university or college to which they have applied, to find placement at another university or college.
If you want to study at a higher education institution, apply directly to the universities and colleges in which you are interested as soon as they open applications.
The CACH facility will send prospective student’s information to universities, technical and vocational education and training (TVET) colleges, and the sector education and training authorities (SETAs) for learnerships. Where places exist and you meet the requirements, institutions will contact you to offer you a place.
Universities and colleges do not accept ‘walk-in’ applications.
Register online on the CACH website or contact the CACH service from January to February between 8h00 and 20h00 on 0800 356 635. Alternatively, SMS your name and ID number to 49200.
How CACH works
Phase 1:
Individuals looking for space in the PSET system can SMS their name and ID Number to
31629 and be called back free of charge. Individuals can also register or sign up online via the
website: http://cach.dhet.gov.za.
Phase 2:
In the case of an SMS, the agents will call a prospective student back free of charge. The
agents will then register all requested details on the CACH database, indicating the learners’ chosen
field of study and the province they wish to study.
Phase 3:
The applicant’s details and matric results will be confirmed, verified, and automatically
transferred to institutions of higher learning for possible admission and placement on confirmation by
the applicant.
Phase 4:
Where places exist and applicants meet the requirements, institutions will contact
applicants directly to offer them available places.
