The Higher Education Students Loans Board (HESLB) is tasked by its establishing Act, under Section 7(i) to recover all the due loans extended for former students since July 1994 so that the same money can be used to lend to other students, thus rendering the loans scheme sustainable and ensuring a revolving fund.

How do I check my loan status on Heslb?

To check your HESLB allocation status, follow these steps:

1. Open any browser on your phone, tablet, laptop, or computer and visit the official webpage of HESLB’s Online Loan Application System (OLAMS) at https://olas.heslb.go.tz/index.php/olas/Olas.

2. Once on the page, locate and click on the section labeled “Login For Registered Applicants.” Enter the required data:

– Form four index number (e.g., S0143.0078.1990).
– Password (the one created during account creation).
– Security code (found below the login page; enter it exactly as shown).

3. After successfully logging in, navigate to the section titled “Allocation Status” and click on it. Here, you will discover whether you have been granted a loan or not.

What does my HESLB application status say -How to interpret your allocation status:

  • Students Granted Loan Status

Congratulations! You have been allocated a loan. Remember, this is a loan that needs to be repaid. Utilize it as intended.

  • Students Not Granted Loan Status

The analysis of your application is still pending. You are advised to check with your Student’s Individual Permanent Account (SIPA) when subsequent loan batches are released. Please be patient as the batch names are still being announced.

Note: Ensure that you are patient while waiting for the batch names to be announced.

How do I appeal my Heslb loan online?

The HESLB Appeal Window is opened

We would like to inform students who applied for loans for 2024/2025 academic year, that the Appeal Window will be open from Wednesday, November 8th to Monday, November 13th.

The Online Appeal Window has been opened to allow students who need additional loan amounts or allocation of loans for students who are yet to be allocated loans in the previous three released batches.

Students intending to appeal are reminded to consider the following:

a. All APPEAL requests will be submitted online;

b. To submit an appeal, a student will have to follow the following steps:

i) Log in to ‘SIPA’ account;

ii) Click ‘Appeal for Loan’;

iii) Follow instructions by providing correct information and documents.

NOTE: Students are strongly advised to observe the appeal deadline.

How can I get a loan statement?

The simplest way to get your loan details or know your loan outstanding balance is to go to the nearest branch of the lender and ask for assistance. A representative will ask for your account details. Once verified, you can get your statement.

Who can Apply for HESLB Loan 2024/25

To be eligible for a student loan from the Tanzania Higher Education Student Loan Board (HESLB), certain criteria must be met. Here are the general requirements:

  1. To be eligible for the student loan, you must be a Tanzanian citizen.
  2. Must apply for the loan through OLAMS. This is the platform used to process loan applications.
  3. To be eligible for HESLB Online Loan Application 2023/2024, applicants must have been accepted to a fully accredited higher education institution on a full-time basis. This guarantees that your studies are taking place in a legitimate and certified setting.
  4. You should not have any other sources of funding for your schooling. The loan is intended for those who do not have other financial resources.
  5. Undergraduate applicants should not be employed in either the public or private sector and, thus, should not generate income from regular employment.
  6. You must be a continuing student, meaning you have progressed to the next year or stage of study. You need to provide results or progress reports to demonstrate your academic advancement.

How to apply for HESLB Online Loan | Application Process

To begin your loan application process, open any web browser on your device and navigate to the HESLB OLAMS website at https://olas.heslb.go.tz.

Once on the homepage, click on the “Apply for Loan” option, as indicated in the accompanying image, and specify whether you are a NECTA student or a non-NECTA student.

After making your selection of “NECTA” or “Non-NECTA,” you will be directed to the registration form. Ensure the accurate completion of all required information.

Pay meticulous attention to each designated field, entering your details precisely, as even a minor mistake could lead to disqualification by HESLB.

Provide the necessary documentation in the specified format, and carefully review all information before officially submitting it.

Next, proceed to make the application fee payment. Applicants must submit a non-refundable, one-time fee of TZS 30,000.00/= using GePG through NMB, CRDB, TPB, Vodacom M-PESA, TIGO PESA, or AIRTEL MONEY to finalize the payment process.

To complete the online application on the OLAMS website, print and sign the corresponding application forms and loan agreements. Attach all necessary documents, obtain authentication, and then upload them to the OLAMS platform.

Submit the printed form, previously uploaded to OLAMS, via EMS to the following address:

HESLB Loan Application Supported Documents

The following are the key documents to support application for the 2023/2024 HESLB Online Loan Application: –

  1. Death certificate to prove orphanage (RITA or ZCSRA);
  2. Self-Disability Form (SDF-1) endorsed by the District Medical Officer (DMO) or Regional Medical Officer (RMO) or any designated medical expert with recognized affiliations;
  3. Parent Disability Form (PDF-2) endorsed by the District Medical Officer (DMO) or Regional Medical Officer (RMO) or any designated medical expert with recognized affiliations;
  4. Corporate Sponsorship Form (SCSF-3) supporting financial assistance received by applicant during pre-university/college schooling. SCSF-3 to be endorsed by the applicant’s corporate sponsor;
  5. Household vulnerability evidence endorsed by approved District Social Welfare Officer;
  6. Retirement letter endorsed by the last employer recognized by the National Pension Scheme;
  7. Social Support Beneficiary’s number from Tanzania Social Action Fund (TASAF).

After submitting your application, the Higher Education Students’ Loans Board (HESLB) will review your eligibility and assess your financial need. If your application is approved, you will receive a notification outlining the loan amount and disbursement details. Typically, loan disbursements are made directly to the educational institution.
