Did you send in an application to benefit from SASSA’s social relief of distress grant, but they rejected you? Then you appealed this decision, hoping that they’d accept you this time? want to know where your appeal stands? Here’s a guide on how to check your appeal status.
If you’ve applied for SASSA’s social relief of distress grant, where you receive R350 per month, but were rejected, you have a second chance by appealing. If you appealed, here’s how to check your appeal status for the grant.
The appeals process is due to come to an end on January 28 and is for those with applications made during the extension period, between November 2023 and January 2024. The grant officially came to an end on January 31, but payments did not.
It’s important to note that appeals for applications done between May 2020 and October 2020 are closed.
Checking Your Eligibility for the SASSA Grant
Prior to authorizing monthly payments, SASSA verifies each and every grant application submitted by an applicant. An integrated means test is part of this verification process, which compares your ID and bank account balance to various government databases in order to assess your eligibility.
This enables the national agency to verify that nothing has changed regarding your circumstances for November.
To ensure you receive your SASSA payments, please make sure your bank balance is less than 1000 ZAR (South African currency) so that SASSA money can be deposited into your bank account.

The outcome of your appeal will be relayed through SMS.
Payments will then be made from the month you initially applied.
If the applicant qualifies in that month of the application, he/she will be paid for that month & for the current month if they still meet the application criteria. The payment may not necessarily be a double payment/lump sum or on the same day. It can be split over days or weeks.
