The WCED Grade R Application is strictly online. The Western Cape Education Department has streamlined and simplified the admission process by offering an online application system.
Step-by-Step Guide to WCED Grade R Online Application 2025
- Visit the official WCED admissions portal via this link
- Create an account (First timers)
- Log In to Your Account (After verification)
- Complete the Online Application Form (Navigate to the Grade R application section and fill out the form with accurate details. This includes personal information about the child, parent or guardian details, and your residential address.
- Upload Required Documents mentioned above
- Select Preferred Schools (Choose up to three preferred schools for your child. It’s advisable to select schools within your residential area to increase the chances of admission
- Review and Submit
- Track Your Application
You can log in to your account at any time to track the status of your application. The WCED will also notify you via email about the progress and outcome of your application.
Application Requirements for Grade R Admission
Before beginning your online admission application journey, make sure to prepare the following documents and get them ready;
- Certified copy of the child’s birth certificate
- Immunization card
- Proof of residence (utility bill or lease agreement)
- Parents’ or guardians’ ID documents
- A recent passport-sized photograph of the child
- The last official school Report Card
- Proof of application (study permit) or a police affidavit
- Proof of residence
- For foreign learners, a passport, or a study permit, or proof of application for a study permit, or a copy of the parent’s Asylum seeker or Refugee Permit.
Bonus: You can certify copies of your documents at any police station or post office. Keep these copies together as you will need to submit the hard copies later this year to the final school your child is accepted to.
Parents who wish to apply for Grade R or a transfer between schools in Grades 2 to 7 and Grades 9 to 12 will be able to apply in the second admissions window between 1 August and 16 August.

- Regularly check your email and the WCED portal for updates on your application status. Respond promptly to any additional requests or queries from the management.
How to reset your Login Password
- Click on RESET Password
- Type in ID | Passport or Permit number.
- Click on RESET
- Type in the OTP that is sent via SMS to your phone.
- Click on VERIFY.
- Create a new password and complete the Security information
- Click on Register
- Your password has been RESET
- Log in using your new password.
