There are various companies, agencies, and organizations you can apply to for financial support, but the main source of support for TVET colleges is the National Department of Education bursary fund administered by the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS)
Who qualifies for the Bursary?
You qualify for an NSFAS bursary if you are a South African citizen who plans to study in the 2025/26 academic year or you are already studying at a public university or TVET college and you meet the following requirements:
- SASSA recipients automatically qualify on financial eligibility
- Your combined household income is not more than R350 000 per year
- A person with a disability with a combined household income of not more than R600 000 per year or
- Must have email and cell phone number
NSFAS Funding at West Coast College
Students who wish to apply to West Coast College for financial aid can do so. provided you have met the requirements.
You will be able to apply for a bursary (also known as financial aid) directly at NSFAS and continue to apply at West Coast College.
You will be assisted by a Student Support Officer (SSO) and a Bursary Clerk.
In addition, West Coast College has established its bursary fund to augment the current bursaries. Any full-time or part-time student may apply for a college bursary.

NSFAS Wallet
The NSFAS Wallet is where NSFAS allowances are located for students. Students receive allowances directly from NSFAS to withdraw or spend at any trader that’s partnered with the organization.
- 4 Certified copies of student ID
- 2 Certified copies of parent’s / guardian’s ID or death certificates
- 1 Certified copy of the ID/ Birth Certificate for each dependent in the house
- 1 Certified copy of the parent’s / guardian’s latest payslip, grant slip or affidavit as proof of income
- 1 Certified copy of the highest qualification
- 1 Proof of residence
- Application or motivational letter written by an applicant applying for a bursary
- An accommodation Up to R24,000 per year in an urban area/ Up to R18,900 per year in a peri-urban area/ Up to R15,750 per year in a rural area
- Transportation Up to R7,350 per year
- Personal care allowance Up to R2,900 per year
