TVET College courses Also Known As NATED courses are one of the many different types of qualifications you can obtain when you study at a TVET College.

There are different levels for the NATED qualification:

The different levels of NATED qualification are;

  • N1 National Certificate: NQF Level 2: Grade 10
  • N2 National Certificate: NQF Level 3: Grade 11
  • N3 National Certificate: NQF Level 4: Grade 12
  • N4 National Certificate: NQF Level  5: Higher Certificate
  • N5 National Certificate: NQF Level 5: Higher Certificate
  • N6 National Certificate: NQF Level 5: Higher Certificate
  • National N Diploma: NQF Level 6: Diploma/Advanced certificate

Even if you passed Matric with a National Senior Certificate Pass or a Higher Certificate Pass, you can still go on to get a diploma. Once you have entered the N4 National Certificate course, you can study your way to the N6 National Certificate.

Once you have an N6 National Certificate, you are required to complete 18 months of work experience in your chosen study field. This will be noted in a logbook that must be approved by the Department of Higher Education and Training.
After it has been approved, you can get your National N Diploma which is a level 6 on the NQF.

The minimum requirements to study a NATED course is grade 9.

NATED Course Requirements

Who Qualifies For NATED?

You can study a National Qualification (NATED) course if:

  • You have a matric equivalent certificate.
  • You have a matric certificate with a Bachelor’s Degree Pass.
  • You have a matric certificate with a Diploma Pass.
  • You have a matric certificate with a Higher Certificate Pass.
  • You have a matric certificate with a National Senior Certificate Pass.
  • You want to focus on career-based learning.

NQF Levels

According to the same criteria, the National Qualification Framework is a set of standards used to measure all accredited academic courses.

The NQF Levels work as follows:

  • NQF Level 1: Grade 9 certificate or equivalent.
  • NQF Level 2: Grade 10 certificate or equivalent.
  • NQF Level 3: Grade 11 certificate or equivalent.
  • NQF Level 4: Grade 12 certificate or equivalent.
  • NQF Level 5: Higher Certificate.
  • NQF Level 6: Diploma.
  • NQF Level 7: Bachelor’s Degree.
  • NQF Level 8: Honours Degree.
  • NQF Level 9: Masters Degree.
  • NQF Level 10: Doctorate Degree.
